Investigation of Smuggling and Illegal Entry/Exit
In accordance with Article 4 of the Coastal Patrol Act, investigation of smuggling that takes place in territorial waters, coastal areas, river mouths and non-commercial ports; prevention of illegal entry/exit; security inspection of commercial port subjects and other crime investigations are the legally defined responsibilities of CGA.
Major investigatory units of CGA include various reconnaissance brigades of Coastal Patrol Directorate General, maritime patrols of Maritime Patrol Directorate General, and various reconnaissance and investigation units. Primary targets of the investigations are firearms; narcotics; agricultural, fishery and animal husbandry products; tobaccos; liquors and living animals. Primary targets of prevention of illegal entry/exit are Mainland China residents.
In order to intensify investigation of trafficking and illegal entry/exit, CGA has established “Ocean Security,” “Security and Safety,” “Ocean Pacification,” “Clear Ocean,” “Clear Sky” and “Maritime Narcotic Raid” projects. An evaluation mechanism has been formulated, and each investigatory unit is required to plan its actions in accordance with characteristics, security conditions and warning information of its responsible area in order to enhance investigatory performance, ensure national security and protect the interests of its people.
