To maintain the ecology of the oceans and protect fishery resources for sustainable use, the Coast Guard Administration's(CGA) strategy, based on The Ocean Pollution Prevention Law and The Coast Law, has been to built up the nation's anti-pollution facilities, to strengthen personnel training, and to integrate the pollution-prevention capabilities of the government and the private sector. For a well-prepared response, the CGA has coordinated county/city governments and private organizations to conduct drills to upgrade the nation's ocean pollution-prevention capability.
Since the promulgation of the Nation's Territorial Sea and Adjacent Area Law and The R.O.C. Exclusive Economic zone and Continental Shelf Law on January 21, 1998, the CGA has sent Law Enforcement vessels to patrol the nation's territorial seas, adjacent areas, including coasts of exclusive economic zones for the purpose of preserving the fishery resources of the nation by monitoring illegal explosive/electrical and net fishing and expelling Chinese and other foreign fishing boats that attempt cross-line fishing activities. In protection and patrol of the Northern, Central and Western regions of the Pacific Ocean to maintain the order of our fishing boat operations, protect our nation's fishing interests on the high seas, and fulfill the Nation's international obligations and responsibilities.
