Epidemic Prevention

In recent years different area of Mainland China have reported cases of avian flu. To prevent the endemic from infiltrating Taiwan through Mainland fishing boats’ out-of-bound fishing activities or smuggling/trafficking channels, Coast Guard Administration on August 20, 2005 began to integrate its coastal/maritime capacity and with the air reconnaissance carriers from National Airbornes Service Corps,Ministry of the Interior activate the “Clear Sky Project” in Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Matzu areas simultaneously for comprehensive investigation of Mainland fishing boats that have crossed the border.

In response to intensifying threat of the bird’s flu and in order to prevent avian flu viruses from invading Taiwan via fowl-smuggling passages or illegal immigrants to disturb domestic security, economic stability and public health, Coast Guard Administration is working closely with Center for Disease Control,Departmentof Health,Executive Yuan. and Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine,Council of Agriculture,Executive Yuan. in its attempt to keep epidemics out via enhanced information gathering, duty adjustment, disease prevention training and equipment upgrade.

In view of the fact that investigative actions of the “Clear Sky Project” have become part of the operation routine, the name “Clear Sky Project” was canceled on December 16, 2006. In the future, it may be restored in response to disease prevention requirement in conjunction with disease-prevention and public health agencies.
