1140220-China Coast Guard Harassment in Kinmen Waters , Feb 20, 2025

China Coast Guard Reenters Kinmen Waters for the Second Time This Week; ROC TCGA Responds with Pre-Positioned Patrol Deployment

At approximately 14:00 today, Patrol Area Office 12 of the ROC Taiwan Coast Guard Administration(TCGA) detected four Mainland China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels operating in waters south of Kinmen. TCGA immediately deployed Patrol Boats to the outer boundary of the Restricted Area to monitor and respond.
At 14:50, CCG vessels 14515, 14605, 14608, and 14602 entered Taiwan’s Restricted Area from two locations—southeast of Liaoluo and south of Jinsha’s Zhaishan area—in two dual-ship formations. TCGA's four pre-positioned Patrol Boats moved in to conduct close-range interceptions and shadowing maneuvers, issuing stern radio warnings in Mandarin and English, demanding the intruding vessels to retreat. Under close monitoring and surveillance by TCGA assets, the CCG vessels exited the Restricted Area by 17:00.
TCGA stated that this marks the second CCG incursion into Kinmen’s waters this week, following a similar breach on February 14, bringing the total number of incidents to 59. TCGA reiterated that such repeated grey-zone incursions by CCG vessels seriously undermine maritime safety and regional stability.
Firm in its commitment to uphold the sovereignty and laws of the Republic of China (Taiwan), TCGA emphasized its unwavering stance of No Fear, No Backing down, and No Evasion. TCGA will continue to respond proactively and resolutely to the Mainland China’s provocations to safeguard Taiwan’s maritime security and national sovereignty.
