Persistent Grey-Zone Threats: ROC TCGA Intercepts Another Mainland China Coast Guard Incursion in Kinmen Waters

Following a week of severe sea conditions and gusts exceeding level 10, ROC Taiwan Coast Guard Administration (TCGA) personnel remained steadfast in their maritime surveillance duties across Kinmen’s waters. As weather conditions slightly improved today, the TCGA Patrol Area Office 12 detected several Mainland China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels departing Xiamen around 09:00, and immediately deployed pre-positioned patrol assets to the Restricted Area outer boundary.
At approximately 14:00, TCGA radar identified four CCG vessels — 14602, 14605, 14515, and 14608 — approaching from the southern offshore area of Kinmen. At 14:55, the CCG ships entered Taiwan's Restricted Area in formation from two directions: southeast of Liaoluo and southwest of Zhaishan, executing a coordinated intrusion into Kinmen’s waters.
In response, four TCGA Patrol Boats moved in swiftly for parallel monitoring and interdiction, issuing stern radio warnings in Mandarin and English demanding the intruding vessels to retreat. The confrontation lasted until 17:00, when all four CCG ships exited the Restricted Area under close escort and full documentation by TCGA.
TCGA noted that this marks the 60th incursion by CCG vessels into the Kinmen region, which had turned into a routine provocation by nature. TCGA emphasized that its vigilance had never wavered in the face of such sustained grey-zone pressure. TCGA reaffirmed its firm, cautious, and proactive approach, ensured rapid deployment and full situational control to safeguard Taiwan’s maritime security and sovereignty.
