CGA Response to China Coast Guard Boarding and Inspection of Kinmen Recreational Vessel
ROC Taiwan Coast Guard Administration’s Response to Mainland Chinese Boarding and Inspection of Kinmen Recreational Vessel**
ROC Taiwan Coast Guard Administration(TCGA) issued a statement today in response to an incident involving Mainland Chinese maritime law enforcement action against a ROC Taiwanese recreational vessel near Kinmen.
At 16:47 on the 19th of this month, Patrol District 12 detected two Mainland China Coast Guard(CCG) vessels operating approximately 2.8 nautical miles northwest of Wusha Point, Kinmen Island with radar and infrared thermal imaging systems. The said vessels approached and boarded a ROC Taiwan-flagged recreational vessel *Jin-Xia Cruise* recreational vessel . TCGA immediately dispatched Patrol Boat 10039 to carry out response measure.
A total of six CCG officers boarded and inspected *Jin-Xia Cruise*. They reviewed the vessel’s navigational plan, certificates (documents), and the licenses of the captain and crew, with the captain signing an inspection record. The CCG officers disembarked and concluded the inspection at 17:19.
Preliminary findings confirmed that *Jin-Xia Cruise* had departed from Shuitou Port, Kinmen, at 15:33 on the same day. The vessel was carrying 11 Taiwanese crew members and 23 passengers for a coastal sightseeing tour around Kinmen. Due to the presence of multiple sandbanks near Wusha Point, the vessel had navigated near Mainland China waters during the course of her route.
TCGA Patrol Boat 10039 arrived on scene at 17:33, established communication with the *Jin-Xia Cruise*, and escorted her back to Shuitou Port without further incident.
*Jin-Xia Cruise* is a local recreational vessel at Kinmen, which operates in the vicinity of Kinmen. Similar Mainland Chinese sightseeing recreational vessels have previously been observed touring near Kinmen waters. In line with longstanding goodwill and standard practice, such vessels that had inadvertently entered Restricted and Prohibited Waters of Taiwan Area were instead been warned and asked to leave via broadcasting .
