Relentless Grey-Zone Intrusions by Mainland China: ROC TCGA Reaffirms Firm Enforcement to Defend Sovereignty
Following the unlawful maritime survey conducted yesterday (March 12) by Mainland Chinese research vessel “Yanping No. 2” near Jindong Islet (Dongding), Kinmen, which was successfully expelled by ROC Taiwan Coast Guard Administration (TCGA)’s Patrol Boats, the Mainland China Coast Guard (CCG) again intruded Taiwan’s Restricted Area today.
At approximately 14:00, the TCGA Patrol Area Office 12 detected multiple CCG vessels approaching Kinmen’s southern maritime boundary. TCGA immediately mobilized and deployed Patrol Boats to intercept at the Restricted Area outer boundary.
By 14:50, four CCG vessels — 14515, 14608, 14603, and 14604 — entered Taiwan’s waters in formation from two directions: southeast of Liaoluo and southwest of Zhaishan. TCGA’s four pre-positioned Patrol Boats executed close-range interception, maintaining parallel shadowing maneuvers while issuing firm radio warnings in Mandarin and English and demanding their immediate withdrawal.
Under tight surveillance and maritime law enforcement pressure, the CCG vessels exited Taiwan’s Restricted Area by 17:00.
TCGA condemned Mainland China’s persistent grey-zone tactics, which now include unlawful survey activities and frequent paramilitary maritime intrusions. This latest event marks the 61st recorded CCG incursion into Kinmen waters, signifying an escalating challenge to regional peace and maritime order.
TCGA reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to uphold national sovereignty, confront illegal encroachments with resolve, and sustain public morale and security.
