1140321- China Coast Guard Harassment in Kinmen Waters , Mar 21, 2025
Mainland China Coast Guard Conducts Two Incursions into Kinmen Waters Within 24 Hours; ROC Taiwan Coast Guard Administration Responds with Round-the-Clock Maritime Operations
Maintaining continuous maritime surveillance and readiness is a routine responsibility for the ROC Taiwan Coast Guard Administration (TCGA). Following the expulsion of four Mainland China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels from Kinmen waters yesterday afternoon (March 20), the exact vessels conducted another incursion within 24 hours. TCGA Patrol Area Office 12, under the Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch (KMP Branch), once again responded swiftly and decisively.
At 14:50–15:00 on March 20, CCG vessels, hull numbers 14508, 14608, 14605, and 14604, approached the southern waters off Kinmen , entering Taiwan’s Restricted Area at four separate points: off Fuxing Islet, Jhaishan, Liaoluo, and Beiding Islet. TCGA deployed Patrol Boats to conduct parallel shadowing maneuvers and radio warnings in Mandarin and English, effectively forcing the vessels to exit the Restricted Area by 17:00.
The exact four CCG vessels returned this morning (March 21) at 08:45–09:00, attempting a second incursion via the same four approaches. TCGA’s pre-positioned assets executed a rapid response, moving to intercept and monitor the vessels. Through sustained close-range shadowing and bilingual radio broadcasts,TCGA again successfully expelled the vessels by 11:00.
TCGA emphasized that this second incursion within 24 hours illustrates a continued escalation of Mainland China’s “grey zone” tactics. These persistent and multi-pronged intrusions not only violate Taiwan’s waters but also appear increasingly coordinated with information warfare efforts, including false narratives aimed at undermining Taiwan’s jurisdictional legitimacy.
To date, there have been 63 recorded incursions by CCG vessels into Kinmen waters. TCGA reiterates its firm commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty, and will continue their vigilant patrol deployments and proactive deterrence measures to counter Mainland China’s grey zone threats and uphold regional maritime order.
