1140401-China Coast Guard Hasrassment in Kinmen and Matsu Waters , Apr 1, 2025
Mainland China Coast Guard Vessels Simultaneously Intrude Kinmen and Matsu Waters — ROC Taiwan Coast Guard Administration Responds Resolutely Without Yield
At 07:30 on April 1, the Eastern Theater Command of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) announced the commencement of joint military exercises. In immediate response, ROC Taiwan Coast Guard Administration (TCGA) radar stations of the Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch (KMP Branch) detected coordinated intrusions by Mainland China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels into Restricted Area near Dongyin and Wuqiu. TCGA promptly dispatched Patrol Boats PP-10082, PP-10037, PP-3586, and PP-10081 to monitor and counter the incursions.
At approximately 08:00, Mainland China Coast Guard vessels 14607 and 14517 entered Restricted Area near Dongyin, while 14609 and 14606 violated maritime boundaries near Wuqiu. TCGA Patrol Boats approached the vessels at close range from the coastal side, firmly intercepting and preventing further intrusion into Taiwan's sovereign waters. In addition, TCGA issued repeated radio warnings in both Mandarin and English, demanding immediate withdrawal. Despite worsening sea conditions, as of 15:30, CCG vessels continued loitering near the northwest of Dongyin and around Wuqiu, posing an ongoing threat to maritime security. TCGA Patrol Boats maintained a strong defensive presence, holding their ground and allowing no breaches.
TCGA emphasized that the Mainland China has intensified its use of gray zone tactics, and the synchronized incursions during military drills in both Dongyin and Wuqiu are clear signs of a coordinated campaign. These unilateral provocations not only infringe upon Taiwan’s sovereignty but also pose a grave challenge to peace, security, and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. TCGA reaffirmed its unwavering stance to defend national sovereignty, committed to full-time maritime patrols and the immediate public release of real-time enforcement footage to debunk Mainland China’s disinformation and uphold public morale.
