1140515-China Coast Guard Harassment in Kinmen Waters, May 15, 2025
Unidentified Mainland China Coast Guard Vessels Intrude into Kinmen Waters — The ROC Taiwan Coast Guard Administration Detects and Forcefully Expels
On May 15 at approximately 14:00, the Patrol Area Office 12 of the ROC Taiwan Coast Guard Administration(TCGA)’s Kinmen–Matsu–Penghu (KMP) Branch detected two Mainland China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels appearing near the Kinmen area. Patrol assets were immediately deployed forward to the outer boundary of the Restricted Area .
Using various surveillance systems, TCGA also identified two additional CCG vessels operating without AIS (Automatic Identification System) signals — indicating a deliberate attempt to avoid detection.
Between 14:43 and 14:59, a total of four CCG vessels — 14605, 14604, 14608, and 14521 — entered Taiwan’s sovereign waters from the east and west of Kinmen, forming two two-ship formations. TCGA’s four pre-positioned Patrol Boats swiftly responded by executing one-on-one shadowing maneuvers, issuing firm radio warnings in Mandarin and English, and demanding immediate withdrawal.
Under persistent surveillance and pressure, all CCG vessels exited Kinmen’s Restricted Area by 17:05.
The Mainland China's continued "gray zone" incursions show a clear pattern of deliberate provocation. To date, there have been 71 such intrusions into the Kinmen area. In response, the KMP Branch and the Patrol Area Office 12 have continually enhanced their surveillance, rapid response, and patrol capabilities.
TCGA remains resolute in its law enforcement posture, responding swiftly and firmly to every incursion in order to safeguard national sovereignty and maritime security.
