1140915-TCGA Resfutes China’s “Regular Patrol” Claims Near Kinmen , May , 2025
Mainland China Coast Guard Makes False Claims of "Routine Law Enforcement" Near Kinmen — The ROC Taiwan Coast Guard Administration Refutes with Evidence of Provocation and Expulsion
On May 28, the Mainland China Coast Guard (CCG) East China Sea Bureau issued a statement via WeChat, falsely claiming that "Fujian Coast Guard conducted routine law enforcement patrols near Kinmen." The ROC Taiwan Coast Guard Administration (TCGA) strongly refutes this assertion, clarifying the facts as follows:
1. Actual Events: Coordinated Incursion and Expulsion
At 08:50 AM, Taiwan's Patrol Area Office 12 (Kinmen) radar detected four CCG vessels — 14603, 14608, 14609, and 14513 — entering the Restricted Area off Kinmen, navigating in formation from the southeast of Liaoluo and southwest of Damaoshan, deliberately violating Taiwan’s maritime boundaries.
In immediate response, four TCGA Patrol Boats (3505, 10039, 10081, and 10083) were dispatched to conduct parallel escort and deterrence operations. TCGA issued firm radio warnings in Mandarin and English, demanding the intruding ships change course and leave. The entire operation was recorded for evidence. Under persistent monitoring, the CCG vessels exited Taiwan’sRestricted Area by 11:03 AM.
2. Background: Pattern of Gray-Zone Intrusions Masquerading as "Law Enforcement"
TCGA Kinmen–Matsu–Penghu (KMP) Branch emphasized that since the "February 14 Kinmen Incident" of 2024, CCG vessels have repeatedly intruded Taiwan’s waters, starting from February 18, under the pretense of “law enforcement patrols”.
Despite the cross-strait memorandum signed on July 30, CCG incursions have continued unabated, averaging four incidents per month, each lasting approximately two hours. Operational analysis clearly indicates these are deliberate gray-zone disruptions, not legitimate law enforcement activities.
Such actions not only erode cross-strait goodwill but also undermine regional peace and stability. In response,TCGA will maintain its firm enforcement posture, continue proactive surveillance and forward deployment, and publicly release enforcement footage to counter Mainland China’s disinformation. TCGA remains resolute in safeguarding Taiwan’s sovereignty and maritime security, while reinforcing public confidence.
