1140529-China Coast Guard Harassment in Dongsha Waters , May 29, 2025

China Coast Guard Vessel Intrudes Dongsha Waters with AIS Disabled — The ROC Taiwan Coast Guard Administration Intercepts and Expels via On-Site Patrol Vessel

At approximately 08:00 AM on May 28, The ROC Taiwan Coast Guard Administration (TCGA), utilizing joint intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) systems, detected a Mainland China Coast Guard (CCG) vessel "3102" operating without an active AIS (Automatic Identification System) signal, 27 nautical miles northeast of Dongsha Island. The vessel entered Taiwan’s Restricted Area.
TCGA immediately deployed the Dongsha special mission vessel -Patrol Vessel "Hsun Hu No. 8", which conducted parallel escort monitoring, issued repeated stern warnings via radio broadcasts, and forcibly expelled the CCG vessel from the area.
Coordinated Pressure Tactics Across Theaters
Earlier on the same day, TCGA also issued a press release rebutting Mainland China’s disinformation surrounding four CCG vessels harassing Taiwan’s waters off Kinmen. The near-simultaneous intrusion in Dongsha raises serious concerns of deliberate coordinated pressure tactics by Beijing, potentially designed to probe Taiwan’s maritime defense posture in multiple strategic locations.
TCGA firmly condemns these actions, which escalate cross-strait tensions and undermine regional peace and stability. Such conduct clearly reflects gray-zone warfare tactics, attempting to exploit ambiguity while avoiding overt military confrontation.
TCGA Response: Firm, Proactive, Coordinated
TCGA affirms its unwavering commitment to maritime law enforcement and national defense. It will continue to:
•Employ joint ISR capabilities to detect and track CCG vessels in real time.
•Pre-deploy assets for rapid response and effective deterrence.
•Maintain 24/7 readiness to defend Taiwan's sovereignty and protect marine resources in Dongsha.
