1140620-China Coast Guard Harassment in Kinmen Waters , Jun 20, 2025
China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels have continued to intrude into the waters around Kinmen. Following two incursions yesterday morning and afternoon, when four CCG ships entered the waters in formation, four vessels again sailed into Taiwan’s restricted waters off Kinmen at 3:00 PM today from outside Tianpu, Kinmen, in single-file formation. The Taiwan Coast Guard Administration (TCGA) immediately dispatched patrol vessels to respond.
The four CCG ships “14609,” “14606,” “14521,” and “14529” formed up yesterday (19th) at 9:00 AM and 2:50 PM, respectively, and entered Taiwan’s restricted waters from the eastern and western sides of Kinmen (south of Zhaishan and south of Liaoluo). They exited the waters at 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
Today (20th), the same four vessels with identical hull numbers formed a single-file formation again at 2:50 PM and entered Taiwan’s restricted waters from the east of Tianpu, Kinmen, sailing from east to west. They exited south of Zhaishan at around 5:00 PM.
During these two days of harassment operations, TCGA deployed patrol vessels throughout the entire process to sail alongside and monitor the Chinese vessels, collect evidence, and broadcast warnings in Chinese and English via radio ordering them to leave the waters.
The TCGA stated that since February 19, 2024, CCG formations have harassed Kinmen waters 76 times, continuously conducting Gray Zone Operations against Taiwan. These actions aim to conduct cognitive warfare through a pattern of harassment.
The Kinmen–Matsu–Penghu Branch will continue monitoring China Coast Guard movements. Once abnormal activities are detected, it will adhere to the principle of “no avoidance and no concession”, firmly safeguarding national sovereignty and ensuring national security.
