Mainland China Coast Guard Vessels Enter Waters Near Taiwan’s Outlying Islands; TCGA Monitors and Repels Intrusions off Dongyin and Wuqiu

ROCTaiwan Coast Guard Administration(TCGA) confirmed that on the morning of May 23, multiple Mainland China Coast Guard vessels entered the Restricted Waters surrounding Taiwan’s outlying islands of Dongyin and Wuqiu in coordinated formations. TCGA maintained full surveillance at coastal and maritime region and dispatched patrol boats to monitor, gather evidence, and expel the intruding vessels. All CCG vessels exited approximately one hour after entering the area.
At 07:48, CCG vessels 14607 and 14509 entered Restricted Waters near Dongyin Island, part of the Matsu archipelago. The third vessel, 14517, operated in a supporting role outside the Restricted Water. TCGA responded with patrol boat PP-3586, PP-3571, and PP-10037, conducting real-time surveillance, video documentation, and radio warnings. The CCG vessels exited the water by 08:53.
Meanwhile, two additional CCG vessels — 14606 and 14506 — were detected entering Restricted Waters near Wuqiu Island, while 14502 remained outside in a backup position. TCGA deployed patrol boat PP-10039 and PP-10035 from Kinmen and Taichung, respectively, to respond. The CCG formation exited the water at approximately 08:45.
TCGA stated that this marks the seventh instance this month of deliberate CCG formations entering Taiwan Area’s Restricted Waters around its outlying islands. These repeating incursions threaten maritime navigational safety, undermine regional peace and stability, and are not conducive to promoting equitable cross-strait exchanges.
TCGA urges Mainland China to exercise self-restraint and immediately cease such provocative and irrational activities. TCGA remains committed to safeguard our national sovereignty and security with unwavering resolve.
