1140730-TCGA Resfutes China’s “Regular Patrol” Claims Near Kinmen , Jul 30, 2025
China Coast Guard claims “Routine Law Enforcement Patrol Near Kinmen”; Taiwan Coast Guard Administration strongly refutes the claim
The China Coast Guard (CCG) East China Sea Bureau recently stated on its official website that “Fujian Coast Guard conducted routine law enforcement patrols in waters near Kinmen.” As this claim does not match the facts, Taiwan Coast Guard Administration (TCGA) issued the following rebuttal:
On July 29 and July 30, TCGA’s 12th Patrol Area of the Kinmen–Matsu–Penghu Branch detected China Coast Guard vessels gathering in waters east of Beiding Island near Kinmen, showing clear signs of potential intrusion.
TCGA immediately adjusted response capabilities and deployed patrol boats forward to monitor and block the vessels, preventing them from entering Taiwan’s waters.
At 15:00 on July 29, four CCG vessels — “14605,” “14529,” “14608,” and “14513” — entered Taiwan’s waters from southeast of Liaoluo, sailing west in single-file formation. Four TCGA patrol boats quickly deployed and expelled the vessels from the restricted waters at 17:00.
Less than 24 hours later, the same four vessels again harassed Kinmen waters at 09:00 on July 30, turning off their Automatic Identification System (AIS) in an attempt to evade detection.
However, TCGA still detected the vessels and immediately dispatched four patrol boats to respond, issuing firm warnings via Chinese and English radio broadcasts demanding they turn away and leave.
Under the close monitoring of Taiwan’s patrol vessels, the CCG ships exited the restricted waters at 11:05.
The Kinmen–Matsu–Penghu Branch stated that CCG vessels continue to conduct monthly gray-zone harassment against Taiwan. By turning off AIS and other tactics, they attempt to weaken Taiwan’s surveillance capacity.
In reality, these actions are not “law enforcement patrols,” but “routine harassment” carried out under the pretext of law enforcement.
The branch will continue maintaining high-intensity surveillance, response, and deployment capabilities, closely monitoring CCG movements and firmly safeguarding national sovereignty and maritime security.
