China Coast Guard Hsrassment in Kinmen Waters , September 13, 2024
Mainland China Coast Guard’s Intrusion occurred before Mid-Autumn Festival; ROC TCGA Responds with Immediate Expulsion
At 08:50 this morning, four Mainland China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels—14608, 14515, 14603, and 14507—entered Taiwan’s Restricted Area near Kinmen from four separate directions: south of Shuitou, Jhuishan, Liaoluo, and Beiding Island. In response, the ROC Taiwan Coast Guard (TCGA) immediately deployed four Patrol Boats—PP-3577, PP-3556, PP-3573, and PP-10039—in a one-to-one parallel monitoring formation. TCGA conducted continuous radio warnings in Mandarin and English, documented the incursion, and executed expulsion procedures. Under TCGA monitoring, the CCG vessels exited Taiwan’s waters by AM 11:00.The incident lasting approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes.
This marks the first coordinated CCG incursion in September, and notably occurred on the eve of the Mid-Autumn Festival. It brings the total count of CCG intrusions into waters surrounding Taiwan’s outlying islands to 39 to date this year.
TCGA strongly condemned CCG’s maneuver, stating that such actions will not bring benefits to constructive or equitable cross-strait engagement. TCGA called on Mainland China to recognize the importance of regional peace and maritime stability.
Reaffirming its unwavering commitment to defending national sovereignty, TCGA emphasized that they will continue to uphold the principles of “No Provocation, No Conflict, No Evasion, and No Feigning weakness”, maintain firm and lawful enforcement posture to ensure the security and order of Taiwan’s maritime domain and protect national ocean rights.
