ROC TCGA Issues Statement on “Joint Sword-2024B” PLA Exercise; Closely Coordinating with Ministry of National Defense
In response to the announcement by the Eastern Theater Command of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) on the "Joint Sword-2024B" joint exercise, the ROC Taiwan Coast Guard Administration (TCGA) has released following statements:
The PLA Eastern Theater Command released a short video titled "Prepared for War" on the morning of October 13, signaling a new round of military pressure through the launch of "Joint Sword-2024B." Following the release of this footage, TCGA detected multiple CCG unusual movements, including several crossings of the Taiwan Strait median line and flotilla operations in Taiwan’s northern, southwestern, and eastern waters.
In response, TCGA immediately activated its Response Center and dispatched surface assets to monitor the situation in close coordination with the Ministry of National Defense (MND).
On the morning of October 14, the PLA officially announced the commencement of "Joint Sword-2024B" in the sea and airspace surrounding Taiwan. The coordinated intimidation and coercion tactics by both PLA and CCG forces represent a serious threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the broader region. These actions clearly aim to unilaterally undermine the status quo of Taiwan waters.
TCGA affirms their full preparation and remains committed to firmly defending the nation’s maritime sovereignty and security. TCGA also urges commercial shipping and fishing vessels operating near the affected areas to remain on heightened alert during this period of time.
