China Coast Guard Hsrassment in Kinmen Waters , October 28, 2024
After “Joint Sword 2024B” Military Exercise, Mainland China Coast Guard Repeatedly Intrudes into Kinmen Waters; TCG Responds Despite Rough Seas
October 28, 2024
At approximately 14:00 on October 28, the Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch (KMP Branch of the ROC Taiwan Coast Guard Administration (TCGA) detected four Mainland China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels approaching Taiwan’s Restricted Areasouth of Kinmen. TCGA immediately deployed four patrol boats in response to intercept and expel the vessels.
At 15:00, four CCG ships—hull number 14512, 14609, 14603, and 14602—entered Taiwan’s Restricted Area from four directions: south of Fuxing Islet, Jhuishan, Xinhou, and Liaoluo, respectively. TCGA deployed four Patrol Boats in one-on-one parallel shadowing maneuver along the boundary line to intercept and issue continuous radio warnings in both Mandarin and English, clearly asserting Taiwan’s law enforcement position.
Despite rough sea conditions in the area, TCGA personnel demonstrated their maneuverability to maintain maritime control. The CCG vessels exited the Restricted Area by 17:00 under TCGA’s continuous monitoring and expulsion. The incident lasted for approximately two hours.
TCGA emphasized that such repeated actions by CCG only cause mistrust between the peoples on both sides of the Strait and will not bring benefits to equitable cross-strait dialogue. TCGA urged Mainland China to refrain from further provocative intrusions.
Reaffirming its firm stance, TCGA reiterated its commitment to the principles of “Non-Provocation and No Backing Down”, and will continue to safeguard maritime order and national sovereignty.
