China Coast Guard Hsrassment in Kinmen Waters , November 26, 2024

Second Consecutive Day of “Gray Zone” Harassment: ROC TCGA Responds Firmly to Mainland China Coast Guard Incursion

Following yesterday’s incursion, the ROC Taiwan Coast Guard Administration (TCGA)’s Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch (KMP Branch) again detected four Mainland China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels approaching Taiwan’s Restricted Area south of Kinmen at approximately 08:00 on November 26. The exact four vessels involved in the previous day's operation returned, prompting TCGA to immediately dispatch four pre-positioned Patrol Boats to respond and repel the intrusion.
At 08:50, the CCG vessels—hull numbers 14513, 14609, 14608, and 14515—entered Taiwan’s Restricted Area from four directions: south of Fuxing Islet, Jhuishan, Liaoluo, and Beiding Island. TCGA deployed four Patrol Boats in a one-on-one parallel shadowing. Each Patrol Boats issued radio warnings in Mandarin and English, clearly expressed Taiwan’s law enforcement stance, and conducted full monitoring, documentation, and expulsion procedures. The CCG ships exited the area by 11:00, after approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes under TCGA surveillance.
This marks the fourth CCG incursion into Taiwan’s outlying island waters in November, and the 54th such incident in 2024.
TCGA condemned the action, stating that the intrusion occurred just prior to an incoming weather front amid deteriorating sea conditions. By conducting operations in a heavily trafficked maritime corridor, the CCG vessels not only disregarded the navigational safety of ships passing through, but also posed a “gray zone” threat that undermined maritime order.
TCGA called on Mainland China to recognize the importance of regional peace and stability and to cease all harassment activities. TCGA reaffirmed that its commitment to defend national sovereignty remains unchanged. TCGA will continue to uphold the principles of “No Provocation and No Backing-down”, and will steadfastly enforce maritime law to protect Taiwan waters and ensure the safety of navigation.
