1140913-China Coast Guard Harassment in Dongsha Waters , Sep 13, 2025

China Coast Guard and fishing vessels continually harass Dongsha Waters; Taiwan Coast Guard Administration detains one small boat
Following the expulsion of the China Coast Guard (CCG) vessel "3101" from Dongsha restricted waters by Taiwan Coast Guard Administration (TCGA) vessel "Tainan" on the afternoon of September 12th, TCGA Dongsha Command detected the Chinese fishing vessel "Yuehui Laiyu 04887" entering Taiwan’s Dongsha waters at 18:31 on the same day, approximately 11.6 nautical miles east of Dongsha Island. The Coast Guard immediately dispatched the Dongsha squadron’s CP-1025 and CP-1026 vessels to investigate. They successfully intercepted and boarded the Chinese vessel’s small boat about 2.5 nautical miles northeast of Dongsha Island, detaining the boat (with three individuals aboard) and expelling the Chinese fishing vessel from the restricted waters. As of September 13th, no CCG ships or illegal Chinese fishing vessels were detected in Dongsha waters.
While the TCGA remains vigilant against CCG harassment, it also continues to guard against illegal fishing activities by Chinese fishing vessels. On this occasion, the Chinese vessel "Yuehui Laiyu 04887" took advantage of the situation to enter Taiwan’s Dongsha waters and deploy a small boat, attempting to conduct illegal fishing operations under the cover of darkness. At 23:09 on September 12th, TCGA, utilizing superior ships, encircled and successfully boarded the Chinese small boat. The "Yuehui Laiyu" fishing vessel was forcefully expelled from Taiwan’s Dongsha waters, demonstrating the Coast Guard's determination and capability to protect the ecological integrity and resources of Dongsha waters.
TCGA sternly urges China to restrain its vessels and refrain from illegally entering Taiwan’s Dongsha waters. TCGA will continue to deploy large vessels to patrol Dongsha waters, coordinating with the Dongsha Command's island-based capabilities, to provide around-the-clock surveillance and strong enforcement against illegal Chinese fishing vessels, ensuring the protection of national sovereignty, marine rights, and the sustainable development of Dongsha’s resources.
