1140915-China Coast Guard Harassment in Kinmen Waters , Sep 15, 2025
China’s Gray Zone Strategy continue to harass; Taiwan Coast Guard Administration maintains full surveillance to defend national security
Recently, China has been continuously engaging in Gray Zone harassment. After Chinese Coast Guard (CCG) vessels were expelled from Dongsha waters by Taiwan’s Coast Guard, today (15th), CCG vessels again intruded into the waters near Kinmen. Taiwan Coast Guard Administration (TCGA) immediately deployed patrol vessels in response to expel the intruders.
At around 14:00 today, the Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch's 12th Patrol District detected CCG vessels with their Automatic Identification Systems (AIS) turned off, indicating potential intrusion. TCGA quickly adjusted its response capability and deployed patrol vessels forward. At 15:00, four CCG vessels — “14608,” “14507,” “14605,” and “14527” — entered Taiwan’s waters from the southern areas of Lieyu and Beideng. TCGA immediately sent four patrol vessels to approach and monitor the vessels, blocking their entry into Taiwan’s waters. Through both Chinese and English radio broadcasts, the Coast Guard firmly demanded that the Chinese vessels change course and leave. Under constant monitoring from Taiwan’s patrol vessels, the CCG vessels exited the restricted waters of Kinmen at 17:00.
TCGA emphasized that China continues to use Gray Zone Strategy to harass Taiwan, spreading disinformation as part of its cognitive warfare operations. The Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch and the 12th Patrol District maintain high-intensity surveillance, rapid response, and deployment capabilities 24/7 to monitor and track the movements of CCG vessels. TCGA remains steadfast in its enforcement actions, promptly issuing clarifications to counter China’s disinformation, and is fully committed to defending Taiwan’s sovereignty and ensuring national security.
