1140928- Chinese Research vessels intrude into Taiwan's Waters, Sep 28, 2025

Chinese Research vessels intrude into Taiwan's Waters; Taiwan Coast Guard Administration expels them, forcing change of course
Today (28th), Taiwan Coast Guard Administration (TCGA) detected two Chinese research vessels, "Xiangyanghong 18" and "Dongfanghong 3", simultaneously operating in Taiwan's northern waters, heading in the southeast and northeast directions, respectively. TCGA immediately dispatched the vessel "Danshui ", "Taichung ", and patrol boat "10033", "3553 " in a 2-vessel, 2-boat formation, conducting full monitoring and close expulsion, forcing the two Chinese research vessels to change their course and depart from Taiwan's waters.
TCGA reported that at 09:58 AM today, "Xiangyanghong 18" was detected 58 nautical miles northwest of the Pengjia Islet, continuing to head toward Taiwan's waters. TCGA promptly deployed vessel "Danshui "and patrol boat "10033" to respond. At 12:16 PM, after broadcasting an expulsion order 7.8 nautical miles west of Pengjia Islet, patrol boat "10033" used ship maneuvering techniques to force Xiangyanghong 18 to change course. Communications with the vessel confirmed the change in direction. By 3:45 PM, "Xiangyanghong 18" was 25 nautical miles east of Pengjia Islet, heading at a course of 146 degrees at 10 knots, outside of Taiwan's restricted waters, where 3529 Boat continued monitoring.
Meanwhile, at 12:35 PM, TCGA also detected another Chinese research vessel, " Dongfanghong 3", 42 nautical miles north-northwest of Fugui Cape (14 nautical miles outside Taiwan's restricted waters), heading northeast. The Coast Guard immediately dispatched vessel " Taichung " and patrol boat " 3553" to monitor and patrol the area outside Taiwan's restricted waters. At 4:00 PM, " Dongfanghong 3" was detected 40 nautical miles north-northwest of Pengjia Islet, with Danshui Ship and 3553 Boat continuing to monitor and prevent the vessel from entering Taiwan's waters.
The Coast Guard strongly condemned China's disregard for international legal norms in entering Taiwan's waters, emphasizing that such actions undermine regional peace and stability and could cause dissatisfaction among the people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
TCGA will continue to uphold a firm enforcement stance, closely monitor Chinese public vessels, pre-deploy patrol ships, and respond immediately to any incidents. It will also release enforcement footage to protect national sovereignty and maintain public morale and stability.
