1141001-China Coast Guard Harassment in Dongsha Waters , Oct 1, 2025
China Coast Guard ship fleet intrudes into Dongsha Waters; Taiwan Coast Guard Administration deploys two ships for continuous monitoring and expulsion
At 06:53 AM on September 30, Taiwan Coast Guard Administration (TCGA) Dongsha Command detected two Chinese Coast Guard (CCG) ships, "3103" and "3105" south of Dongsha Island, outside Taiwan's waters. Based on their course, it was assessed that these vessels might enter Taiwan's jurisdictional waters, prompting the Coast Guard to immediately dispatch the on-duty ships, "Tainan" and "Qijin" , to respond.
At 08:22 AM, the CCG ships "3103" and "3105" entered Taiwan's restricted waters. TCGA vessel "Tainan", positioned 29.2 nautical miles south of the island's restriction line, maintained close monitoring and forcefully expelled the vessels. By 06:15 PM, the CCG ships "3103" and "3105" were detected heading west in the southwestern waters of Dongsha, leaving the restricted zone.
The Dongsha Marine National Park is Taiwan's highest-level marine conservation area. Chinese fishing vessels have repeatedly violated Taiwan's waters for illegal fishing. Since January 2023, the Coast Guard has expelled 159 Chinese fishing vessels and detained 12 small boats in Dongsha waters. Additionally, CCG vessels have continuously intruded into these waters. TCGA urges China to cease such provocative actions to avoid undermining regional peace and stability.
TCGA will continue to dispatch large ships to patrol Dongsha waters, ensuring 24/7 maritime security, steadfastly safeguarding Taiwan's sovereignty and marine rights, and ensuring the sustainable development of Dongsha's marine resources.
