1150114-China Coast Guard Harassment in Kinmen Waters , Jan 14, 2026
Jan 14, 2026 – Mainland China Coast Guard Vessels Again Intrude into Kinmen Waters; Taiwan Coast Guard Responds Firmly with Expulsion to Safeguard National Sovereignty
Mainland China Coast Guard (CCG) harassment activities continue unabated. On the afternoon of the 14th, the 12th Patrol Area under the Taiwan Coast Guard Administration (TCGA) Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch detected several CCG vessels forming up in waters surrounding Kinmen. TCGA immediately activated its response mechanism and deployed patrol boats forward to intercept and expel the vessels, demonstrating Taiwan’s sovereignty over Kinmen waters and the Coast Guard’s firm law-enforcement stance.
At approximately 14:00, the 12th Patrol Area detected two groups of CCG vessels assembling outside waters south of Kinmen. TCGA immediately deployed patrol boats forward and pre-positioned them along the Restricted Area boundary. At 14:50, four CCG vessels — 14527, 14609, 14531, and 14603 — entered the Kinmen Restricted Area in two-vessel formations from the east of Liaoluo and the southwest of Liaoluo, proceeding westward simultaneously.
TCGA patrol boats that had been pre-deployed immediately moved forward to conduct one-on-one parallel monitoring, preventing the vessels from further advancing into Taiwan’s waters. During the operation, TCGA patrol boats issued radio warnings in Mandarin and English, sternly informing the vessels that their actions had seriously disrupted maritime order and demanding that they alter course and depart immediately. Under continuous interception and expulsion operations by TCGA patrol boats, the CCG vessels ultimately turned away and exited the Kinmen Restricted Area at 16:48.
TCGA strongly condemns Mainland China’s attempt to employ gray zone tactics as a routine method to spread misleading narratives claiming jurisdiction over these waters. Such claims are inconsistent with the facts and seriously undermine regional peace and stability. TCGA has established high-intensity surveillance and operational deployment capabilities and will continue to respond promptly to maritime developments while firmly upholding its law-enforcement stance to safeguard national sovereignty and national security.
