1150124-China Coast Guard Harassment in Kinmen Waters , Jan 24, 2026
January 24, 2026-Mainland China Coast Guard Again Uses “Law Enforcement Patrol” as Pretext to Intrude into Kinmen Waters; Taiwan Coast Guard Conducts Full Monitoring and Expulsion, Firmly Refutes False Claims
The Mainland China Coast Guard (CCG) today (24) claimed that it conducted a “routine law enforcement patrol” in waters near Kinmen. As the statement does not correspond with the facts, the Taiwan Coast Guard Administration (TCGA) Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch hereby issues the following clarification and rebuttal.
1.
At approximately 08:00 today, the 12th (Kinmen) Patrol Area detected two groups of CCG vessels assembling outside waters south of Kinmen. TCGA immediately dispatched patrol boats forward and pre-positioned them along the Restricted Area boundary.
At 09:00, four CCG vessels — 14529, 14605, 14603, and 14533 — entered the Kinmen Restricted Area in two-vessel formations from the east-southeast of Liaoluo and south of Lieyu.
Four TCGA patrol boats that had been pre-deployed immediately moved forward to conduct one-on-one parallel monitoring, preventing the vessels from further advancing into Taiwan’s waters. During the operation, TCGA patrol boats issued radio warnings in Mandarin and English, sternly demanding that the vessels alter course and depart immediately.
Under continuous interception and expulsion operations by TCGA patrol boats, the CCG vessels ultimately exited the Kinmen Restricted Area at 11:00.
2.
TCGA stated that Mainland China has repeatedly used the pretext of conducting “law enforcement patrols” to send Coast Guard vessels across the Kinmen Restricted Area boundary, a pattern of navigation that constitutes routine harassment. Such actions not only undermine the cross-strait atmosphere but also seriously threaten regional peace and stability.
TCGA emphasized that it will continue to closely monitor maritime developments, conduct forward deployment of operational forces, and respond proactively. TCGA will also promptly release evidence of expulsion operations to counter misinformation disseminated by Mainland China.
TCGA remains firmly committed to safeguarding national sovereignty and ensuring maritime security.
