1150317-China Coast Guard Harassment in Kinmen Waters , Mar 17, 2026

Mainland China Coast Guard Conducts Second Consecutive Day of Intrusion; Taiwan Coast Guard Maintains Full-Time Monitoring and Firmly Expels Intruding Vessels

Harassment activities by the Mainland China Coast Guard (CCG) continue unabated. Following a formation intrusion into Kinmen water on March 16, the 12th Patrol Area under the Taiwan Coast Guard Administration (TCGA) Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch again detected CCG vessels assembling near Kinmen water on the afternoon of March 17. TCGA immediately activated its response mechanism and deployed patrol boats forward to intercept and expel the vessels, firmly safeguarding Taiwan’s sovereignty.

At approximately 14:00, the 12th Patrol Area detected CCG vessels assembling in water east of Kinmen. TCGA immediately dispatched patrol boats to move forward and pre-position along the Restricted Water’s boundary.

At 14:50, four CCG vessels — 14605, 14533, 14603, and 14531 — entered the Kinmen Restricted Water from the east-southeast of Liaoluo.

TCGA patrol boats that had been pre-deployed immediately moved forward to conduct one-on-one parallel monitoring, preventing the vessels from further advancing into Taiwan’s water. During the operation, TCGA patrol boats issued radio warnings in Mandarin and English, sternly demanding that the vessels alter course and depart immediately.

Under continuous interception and expulsion operations by TCGA patrol boats, the four CCG vessels ultimately exited the Kinmen Restricted Water at 16:53.

The Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch stated that with improving sea conditions in recent days, local fishermen have resumed offshore operations, and maritime order has remained stable under TCGA patrol protection. However, the Mainland China Coast Guard has unnecessarily created disturbances, causing inconvenience to fishermen. CCG vessels should cease such harassment activities to jointly maintain harmony and stability in the Kinmen-Xiamen water.

The Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch further emphasized that maintaining high-intensity maritime surveillance and deployment capabilities is part of TCGA’s routine operations. Whenever abnormal activities by CCG vessels are detected, TCGA will respond immediately to conduct monitoring and expulsion operations, firmly safeguarding Taiwan’s effective jurisdiction over its water. TCGA will continue to uphold a firm law-enforcement stance to ensure national security.
