China Coast Guard Exploits Peak Fishing Season to Intrude into Kinmen Waters; Taiwan Coast Guard Rapidly Responds and Firmly Expels Intruding Vessels
April 28, 2026
As local fishermen in Kinmen take advantage of favorable sea conditions during the peak fishing season, the China Coast Guard (CCG) has again attempted to intrude into Taiwan’s waters.
On the afternoon of April 28, the 12th Patrol Area under the Taiwan Coast Guard Administration (TCGA) Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch detected CCG vessels approaching the Kinmen Restricted Water and immediately deployed pre-positioned patrol boats forward to respond. TCGA acted swiftly to counter the formation intrusion, demonstrating its firm commitment to safeguarding maritime security and national sovereignty.
At approximately 14:00, the 12th Patrol Area detected four CCG vessels — 14609, 14531, 14604, and 14530 — approaching the Kinmen Restricted Water. Patrol boats were immediately dispatched and forward deployed along the Restricted Water boundary.
At 14:50, the four vessels entered the Kinmen Restricted Water in two separate formations, approaching simultaneously from the south of Fengzui and the east of Liaoluo.
TCGA patrol boats immediately conducted one-on-one parallel monitoring, carried out full evidence documentation, and issued radio warnings in Mandarin and English, sternly demanding that the vessels alter course and depart.
Demonstrating firm law-enforcement resolve and operational capability, TCGA patrol boats successfully compelled all vessels to exit the Kinmen Restricted Water at 16:52.
The Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch stated that the current period marks the peak fishing season for species such as mackerel and threadfin, with many Kinmen fishermen operating at sea under favorable conditions. However, China Coast Guard vessels have taken advantage of this period to intrude into Taiwan’s waters under the pretext of 'law enforcement patrols,' while in fact conducting cognitive warfare operations, which are detrimental to cross-strait peace and maritime order.
TCGA further noted that over the past week, CCG vessels have repeatedly entered the Kinmen Restricted Water in formation to harass Taiwan’s waters, attempting to challenge Taiwan’s maritime jurisdiction and mislead the international community. TCGA will continue to stand on the front line, undeterred by challenges, and will take all necessary measures to safeguard national sovereignty, protect maritime security, and ensure the rights and safety of fishermen.
