1150507-China Coast Guard Harassment in Kinmen Waters , May 7, 2026

China Coast Guard Uses Fishing Moratorium Enforcement as Pretext for Intrusion; Taiwan Coast Guard Firmly Responds and Expels Intruding Vessels
On the afternoon of May 7, the 12th Patrol Area under the Taiwan Coast Guard Administration (TCGA) Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch detected China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels approaching the Kinmen Restricted Waater. TCGA immediately dispatched patrol boats to respond and closely monitored the movements of the vessels to prevent harassment activities from affecting maritime security and order in the Kinmen water.

At approximately 14:00, the 12th Patrol Area detected abnormal gathering activity by four CCG vessels — 14606, 14530, 14609, and 14531 — approaching Kinmen water. TCGA immediately deployed four patrol boats to respond.

At 15:00, the four CCG vessels entered the Kinmen Restricted Water in two separate formations, approaching simultaneously from the south of Shaxibao and the southeast of Damaoshan.

Four TCGA patrol boats immediately conducted one-on-one parallel monitoring, carried out continuous evidence documentation, and issued radio warnings in Mandarin and English, demanding that the vessels alter course and depart immediately.

Under continuous monitoring and expulsion operations by TCGA patrol boats, the CCG vessels ultimately exited the Kinmen Restricted Water at 17:03.

The Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch stated that Mainland China began implementing its 2026 seasonal fishing moratorium on May 1. The formation intrusion conducted by CCG vessels under the pretext of “law enforcement patrols” was in fact a form of gray zone harassment targeting Taiwan’s water.

In response to the China Coast Guard’s continued harassment activities, TCGA has maintained round-the-clock surveillance and monitoring of maritime developments. Through firm response and expulsion operations, TCGA continues to demonstrate Taiwan’s effective jurisdiction over the Kinmen water, while firmly safeguarding national sovereignty and maritime security.
