President Reaffirms Commitment to Safeguarding Freedom and Democracy on Second Inauguration Anniversary; Taiwan Coast Guard Firmly Responds to Mainland China Coast Guard Harassment with Operational Resolve
Following the President’s address on May 20 marking the second anniversary of his inauguration, in which Taiwan’s commitment to safeguarding freedom, democracy, and peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait was reaffirmed to the international community, the Taiwan Coast Guard Administration (TCGA) demonstrated that same resolve on May 21 by firmly responding to gray zone harassment activities conducted by the China Coast Guard (CCG), underscoring Taiwan’s unwavering determination to safeguard maritime security and national sovereignty.
At approximately 14:00, the 12th Patrol Area under the TCGA Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch detected four CCG vessels — 14605, 14531, 14606, and 14530 — approaching the Kinmen Restricted Water. TCGA immediately deployed pre-positioned patrol boats forward to positions along the Restricted Water boundary.
At 15:00, the four CCG vessels entered the Kinmen Restricted Water in two separate formations, approaching simultaneously from the south of Lieyu and the southeast of Liaoluo.
TCGA patrol boats immediately conducted one-on-one parallel monitoring, carried out continuous evidence documentation, and issued radio warnings in Mandarin and English, sternly demanding that the vessels alter course and depart immediately.
Demonstrating firm law-enforcement resolve and rapid operational response capability, TCGA patrol boats successfully compelled all four CCG vessels to exit the Kinmen Restricted Water at 17:01.
In response to China’s repeated use of Coast Guard vessels to create maritime gray zone confrontations, TCGA strongly condemns such harassment activities, which have seriously undermined regional peace and stability as well as constructive cross-strait interactions.
TCGA emphasized that it will remain firmly committed to the core principle that 'true peace is secured through strength.' Taiwan Coast Guard will continue to strengthen patrol and operational capabilities and will demonstrate through concrete actions its unwavering commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty and maritime security, without retreat.
