1150527-China Coast Guard Harassment in Kinmen Waters , May 27, 2026
China Coast Guard Repeats Intrusion into Kinmen Water Under Pretext of "Law Enforcement"; Taiwan Coast Guard Firmly Monitors, Expels Intruding Vessels, and Counters Disinformation
Following the China Coast Guard’s (CCG) intrusion into Kinmen water on May 26, during which China falsely claimed to have conducted law enforcement patrol operations, the Taiwan Coast Guard Administration (TCGA) promptly refuted the disinformation by releasing an official press statement along with video footage documenting the monitoring, radio warnings, and expulsion operations.
Despite this clarification, the China Coast Guard again intruded into Kinmen water on May 27, marking two separate incursions within 24 hours, both of which were firmly countered and expelled by TCGA.
At approximately 08:00, the 12th Patrol Area under the TCGA Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch detected four CCG vessels as 14531, 14606, 14530, and 14602 which are approaching water south of Liaoluo, Kinmen. TCGA immediately deployed patrol boats forward to positions along the Restricted Water boundary.
At 09:00, the four CCG vessels entered the Kinmen Restricted Water in two separate formations, approaching from the south of Liaoluo and the south of Zhaishan.
TCGA patrol boats immediately conducted one-on-one parallel monitoring, carried out continuous evidence documentation, and issued radio warnings in Mandarin and English, demanding that the vessels alter course and depart immediately.
In the face of TCGA’s firm operational response, all four CCG vessels ultimately exited the Kinmen Restricted Water at 11:03.
The Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch stated that the China Coast Guard has continued to employ varying formation tactics to harass Kinmen water, followed by one-sided information manipulation intended to create the false impression that China exercises jurisdiction over the Kinmen water.
TCGA emphasized that such false narratives have been promptly exposed and rebutted through official statements and operational evidence, effectively countering this form of cognitive warfare and disinformation operations.
In response to the increasing frequency of CCG harassment activities, TCGA will continue to uphold its firm law-enforcement posture, maintain round-the-clock maritime security operations, and take concrete action to safeguard national sovereignty, maritime order, and regional peace and stability.
