Chinese Coast Guard Again Intrudes into Kinmen Restricted Water Despite Growing International Concern;Taiwan Coast Guard Firmly Expels Intruding Vessels and Resolutely Safeguards National Sovereignty and Maritime Rights
Despite growing international concern over China’s destabilizing maritime activities, Chinese Coast Guard (CCG) vessels once again intruded into Taiwan’s Kinmen Restricted Water on June 29, following their recent harassment of water surrounding Dongsha Island, where they were firmly expelled by the Taiwan Coast Guard Administration(TCGA) cutter Taichung.
The 12th Patrol Area under the Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch maintained round-the-clock intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance operations, detected the CCG formation at an early stage, and immediately deployed patrol vessels to conduct parallel monitoring and response operations. Through proactive and resolute law-enforcement actions, all intruding vessels were successfully expelled.
At approximately 1400, the 12th Patrol Area detected abnormal movements by a formation of CCG vessels. At 1500, four CCG vessels—14606, 14531, 14607, and 14530—entered Taiwan’s Kinmen Restricted Water in two separate formations, approaching respectively from the southeast of Liaoluo and the southwest of Zhaishan.
TCGA patrol vessels immediately initiated one-to-one parallel monitoring operations, maintained continuous evidence collection throughout the operation, and issued firm radio warnings in both Chinese and English, demanding that the vessels alter course and depart immediately. Under sustained pressure from TCGA patrol vessels, all four CCG vessels exited the Kinmen water at 1709.
The TCGA emphasized that like-minded countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and France, have recently expressed serious concern over China’s actions that undermine regional stability, threaten the safety of international navigation, and escalate tensions in the region. Nevertheless, China continues to employ “law enforcement in name, expansion of jurisdiction in reality” in an attempt to create the false impression that it possesses jurisdiction over Taiwan’s surrounding water. The TCGA strongly condemns such actions.
The TCGA reiterates that the sovereignty of the Republic of China (Taiwan) shall not be challenged. The Administration will continue to take all necessary measures to steadfastly safeguard national sovereignty and fully protect Taiwan’s maritime rights and interests.
