China Coast Guard Formation Intrudes into Kinmen Restricted Water; Taiwan Coast Guard Closely Monitors Situation and Firmly Expels Intruding Vessels
On the afternoon of June 3, the 12th Patrol Area under the Taiwan Coast Guard Administration (TCGA) Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch once again detected multiple China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels approaching the Kinmen Restricted Water in formation.
Taiwan Coast Guard maintained continuous situational awareness throughout the incident and immediately dispatched patrol boats to respond. Through one-on-one parallel monitoring operations, TCGA vessels maintained close surveillance and confronted the CCG vessels on the front line, applying continuous pressure until all intruding vessels were expelled.
At approximately 14:00, the 12th Patrol Area detected four CCG vessels — 14602, 14531, 14606, and 14530 — gathering and approaching Kinmen waters. TCGA immediately deployed patrol boats forward to positions along the Restricted Water boundary.
At 15:00, the CCG vessels entered the Kinmen Restricted Water in two separate formations from waters southwest of Liaoluo and south of Shaxibao. TCGA patrol boats immediately conducted one-on-one parallel monitoring, maintained close surveillance, collected evidence throughout the operation, and issued firm radio warnings in Mandarin and English demanding that the vessels alter course and depart.
Under sustained pressure from TCGA patrol boats, all four CCG vessels ultimately exited the Kinmen Restricted Water at 17:03.
The Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch stated that these routine gray-zone harassment operations conducted by the China Coast Guard are intended to create the false impression that China exercises jurisdiction over waters surrounding Taiwan by repeatedly intruding into the Restricted Waters of Taiwan’s offshore islands.
Such actions are designed to mislead the international community.
These activities not only undermine cross-strait peace, but also seriously infringe upon Taiwan’s maritime rights and interests while jeopardizing regional peace and stability. TCGA emphasized that it maintains full awareness of all CCG intrusion activities and promptly deploys vessels to respond whenever necessary, firmly safeguarding Taiwan’s maritime order and security.
