China Coast Guard Intrudes into Kinmen Water Ahead of Typhoon；Taiwan Coast Guard Maintains Round-the-Clock Surveillance and Responds Decisively
As Typhoon Bavi approaches Taiwan, government agencies nationwide have fully activated typhoon preparedness measures. Nevertheless, the China Coast Guard (CCG) has continued operating in water surrounding Kinmen, apparently attempting to exploit the increased operational demands associated with typhoon preparedness to sustain its gray-zone harassment against Taiwan.
At approximately 0800 on July 8, the 12th Patrol Area under the Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch detected four CCG vessels—14533, 14605, 14530, and 14602—operating in two separate formations south of Kinmen and proceeding toward Taiwan’s Kinmen Restricted Water, clearly demonstrating their intent to intrude. The Coast Guard Administration (CGA) immediately dispatched four patrol vessels to conduct one-to-one parallel monitoring operations. Throughout the operation, CGA personnel maintained continuous evidence collection and issued firm radio warnings in both Chinese and English, ordering the CCG vessels to alter course and depart immediately. Under continuous parallel monitoring, close-range surveillance, and persistent radio warnings, all four CCG vessels departed the Kinmen Restricted Water at 1113.
The Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch stated that while the CGA remains fully committed to typhoon preparedness and emergency response operations, it has not relaxed its responsibilities for safeguarding maritime security and protecting national sovereignty. The CCG’s continued gray-zone harassment on the eve of the typhoon not only undermines regional peace and stability but also increases navigational risks at sea, demonstrating conduct that is both irresponsible and unprofessional.
The Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch emphasized that the CGA has established a comprehensive response mechanism to counter China’s gray-zone activities. It will continue to maintain high-intensity intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities, rapid operational response, and forward deployment of patrol assets to steadfastly safeguard national sovereignty and ensure the security of Taiwan’s maritime domain.
