China Coast Guard Resumes Harassment of Kinmen Water Immediately After Typhoon；Taiwan Coast Guard Firmly Expels Intruding Vessels and Demonstrates Resolute Law Enforcement
Shortly after Typhoon Bavi passed through Taiwan, while recovery efforts were still underway and maritime transportation and fishing activities were gradually returning to normal, the China Coast Guard (CCG) resumed its gray-zone harassment against Taiwan by dispatching four Coast Guard vessels to intrude into water surrounding Kinmen on the afternoon of July 14.
At approximately 1500, the 12th Patrol Area under the Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch detected four CCG vessels—14533, 14605, 14606, and 14530—operating in two separate formations south of Kinmen and proceeding toward Taiwan’s Kinmen Restricted Water. The Coast Guard Administration (CGA) immediately dispatched four patrol vessels to conduct one-to-one parallel monitoring operations.
Throughout the operation, CGA personnel maintained continuous evidence collection and issued firm radio warnings in both Chinese and English, demanding that the CCG vessels alter course and depart immediately. Under continuous parallel monitoring and persistent radio warnings, all four CCG vessels departed the Kinmen Restricted Water at 1703.
The CGA stated that although sea conditions remained unstable following the typhoon, the CCG chose to carry out irrational, unprofessional, and hazardous harassment activities, disregarding the safety of maritime navigation and fishing operations. Such actions not only undermine regional peace and stability, but also demonstrate China’s willingness to jeopardize maritime safety in pursuit of its political objectives.
The Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch emphasized that safeguarding Taiwan’s national sovereignty and protecting the safety of Taiwanese fishermen and all lawful maritime activities are among the CGA’s foremost responsibilities.
The CGA will continue to maintain a steadfast presence on the maritime front line to ensure security and order in the water surrounding Kinmen. The CGA also calls on China to refrain from further provocative actions and instead focus its efforts on serving its people and supporting post-typhoon recovery, thereby fulfilling its responsibilities in a constructive manner.
