Chinese Coast Guard Intrudes into Kinmen Waters for the Third Time This Month: Coast Guard Responds Firmly to Safeguard National Sovereignty
At approximately 15:00 on July 21, the 12th Patrol Division of the Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch, Coast Guard Administration (CGA), detected a formation of four China Coast Guard vessels approaching the restricted waters of Kinmen. The CGA immediately activated its response mechanism and dispatched four patrol vessels to conduct one-to-one close monitoring operations. Under the Coast Guard’s firm response, all four China Coast Guard vessels altered course and departed the restricted water of Kinmen by 17:09.
Upon arriving at the scene, Coast Guard patrol vessels swiftly adopted close navigation tactics, closely monitoring the movements of each China Coast Guard vessel. By taking advantage of the patrol vessels maneuverability and performance, the CGA effectively applied pressure to prevent the China vessels from further proceeding into Taiwans’ waters, demonstrating its unwavering resolve in law enforcement and refusal to yield to provocations. Throughout the operation, the CGA also continuously issue radio warnings in both Chinese and English, clearly stating that the waters surrounding Kinmen are under the jurisdiction of Taiwan and ordering the China vessels to leave Taiwan’s waters. These actions successfully prevented further intrusion by the Chinese vessels.
The Coast Guard Administration reiterates that the waters surrounding Kinmen are under Taiwan’s jurisdiction. China’s continued use of gray-zone tactics to intrude into Taiwan’s restricted waters seriously undermines peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and the broader region. In the face of such provocations, the Coast Guard Administration will continue to uphold its policy of“firm law enforcement with no compromise”while leveraging advanced surveillance, monitoring, and reconnaissance technologies to maintain comprehensive maritime domain awareness and resolutely safeguard Taiwan’s sovereignty and maritime security.
