China Coast Guard(CCG) Vessels Intrude into Kinmen Waters During Han Kuang Exercise；Coast Guard Administration (CGA) Maintains Close Surveillance, Responds Swiftly, and Firmly Expels Intruding Vessels
As Taiwan’s Armed Forces were conducting the Han Kuang Exercise, CCG vessels entered the waters around Kinmen this afternoon (August 13), apparently seeking to promote the false narrative that China exercises jurisdiction over the area. The 12th Patrol District of the CGA’s Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch detected the CCG formation approaching Kinmen’s restricted waters in real time and immediately activated its contingency response mechanism, dispatching patrol boats to intercept and firmly expel the vessels.
This afternoon, the 12th Patrol District detected four CCG vessels—CCG 14609, CCG 14531, CCG 14606, and CCG 14530—approaching Kinmen’s restricted waters and immediately deployed patrol boats to maintain heightened readiness. At 2:50 p.m., CCG vessels entered the restricted waters from south of Lieyu and proceeded to intrude along the boundary of the prohibited waters. CGA patrol boats immediately conducted one-on-one parallel monitoring and issued warnings in both Mandarin Chinese and English while maneuvering in close proximity to drive the vessels away. Following the Coast Guard’s firm interdiction, all four CCG vessels departed Kinmen waters
by 5:08 p.m.
The Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch stated that the Han Kuang Exercise is one of Taiwan’s major annual military exercises and also serves as an important opportunity for the CGA to validate its transition between peacetime and wartime operations. By employing gray-zone tactics to intrude into Taiwan’s waters, the CCG is attempting to disseminate the false claim that it possesses jurisdiction over the area, an action carrying clear provocative intent.
As the frontline agency responsible for safeguarding Taiwan’s maritime borders, the CGA is participating in the Han Kuang Exercise while simultaneously maintaining close surveillance of surrounding waters. CGA vessels remain deployed around the clock to respond appropriately to a wide range of potential threats.
The CGA emphasized that no unilateral declaration or provocative action by China can alter the fact that Taiwan exercises effective jurisdiction over the waters surrounding Kinmen.
