1.At 12:00 p.m. on August 27, the China oceanographic research vessel Xiang Yang Hong 3 was detected approximately 77.6 nautical miles southwest of a port in Kaohsiung, about 46 nautical miles outside Taiwan’s restricted waters. The vessel was sailing southeastward without deploying or towing any survey equipment. The CGA immediately dispatched a patrol vessel to the area as a precautionary measure. During the monitoring operation, CGA patrol vessel PP-3559 issued radio warnings firmly instructing the Xiang Yang Hong 3 not to enter waters under Taiwan’s jurisdiction.

At 4:00 p.m., the vessel was approximately 36.7 nautical miles southwest of Eluanbi, Pingtung, about six nautical miles outside Taiwan’s restricted waters. It continued sailing southeastward outside Taiwan’s restricted waters on a course of 113 degrees at a speed of 13.4 knots. Throughout the entire period, the Xiang Yang Hong 3 did not enter Taiwan’s restricted waters and did not deploy or tow any equipment
to conduct survey activities.

2.The CGA emphasized that it will continue to employ joint intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities to closely monitor the movements of China government vessels in waters surrounding Taiwan. Coast Guard vessels will also be proactively deployed to respond to relevant situations, firmly safeguard national sovereignty, and ensure the security of Taiwan’s surrounding waters.
