1150907-Taiwan Coast Guard Expels Chinese Vessel Near Dongsha
China Coast Guard Vessel 3501 Intrudes into Dongsha Waters: The Coast Guard Administration’s Yunlin Patrol Vessel Closely Monitors and Firmly Expels Intruding Vessel.
At approximately 5:00 a.m. today (September 7), the Dongsha Command of the Coast Guard Administration (CGA)’s Southeast Branch detected China Coast Guard (CCG) vessel 3501 operating outside Taiwan’s restricted waters surrounding Dongsha. Based on its course, the vessel was assessed as likely to enter the restricted waters. The CGA immediately dispatched the Yunlin patrol vessel to intercept and deploy in the area.
At 8:00 a.m., CCG vessel 3501 entered the restricted waters southwest of Dongsha Island. The Yunlin immediately moved alongside the vessel to closely monitor its movements and issued stern warnings in both Mandarin and English, ordering it to leave the area. The two vessels remain engaged in a standoff at sea.
Since the beginning of 2026, the CGA has expelled CCG vessels from the waters surrounding Dongsha on 12 occasions. During today’s expulsion operation, CCG vessel 3501 maliciously referred to Taiwan as “China’s Taiwan” over maritime radio communications in an attempt to undermine the sovereignty of the Republic of China (Taiwan). It further issued threats, stating that Taiwan must “return to the one-China principle, or otherwise pay a heavy price.”
The Yunlin continued to firmly enforce the law and responded over radio as follows:
“The Republic of China (Taiwan) is a sovereign and independent country. Neither the Republic of China (Taiwan) nor the People’s Republic of China is subordinate to the other. This is an undeniable fact and the existing status quo. Your unauthorized entry into our waters violates international law and disrupts the order and security of our maritime domain. You are instructed to alter course immediately and leave our waters without delay.
Peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait are vital to the stability of the global economy and the lifeline of the global technology industry. Should conflict occur, you will face sanctions from the international community. Stability at sea is essential to safeguarding your country’s development. We therefore urge you to act prudently in the interest of peace across the Taiwan Strait.”
The CGA emphasized that the Republic of China (Taiwan) possesses indisputable sovereignty over Dongsha Atoll and its surrounding waters. The CGA strongly condemns China’s attempt to conduct cognitive warfare through political manipulation and to create a false impression of jurisdiction through tactics of “law enforcement in name, expansion of authority in reality.”
The CGA will continue to take all necessary measures to resolutely safeguard national sovereignty and ensure the security of Taiwan’s maritime domain.
