1150908-Taiwan Coast Guard Expels Chinese Vessels Near Kinmen

China Coast Guard Formation Again Intrudes into Kinmen Restricted Waters; Taiwan Coast Guard Firmly Expels Vessels and Counters Cognitive Warfare.

China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels again intruded into Kinmen’s restricted waters today (September 8). The Coast Guard Administration’s Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch, through the 12th Patrol District, maintained close surveillance of the waters surrounding Kinmen and detected four CCG vessels gathering in waters to the south. The Coast Guard Administration (CGA) immediately activated its response mechanism and dispatched patrol boats to respond and firmly expel the intruding vessels.

At approximately 8:00 a.m. today, the 12th Patrol District detected four CCG vessels — 14608, 14527, 14604, and 14531 — abnormally gathering outside the restricted waters south of Kinmen. CGA patrol boats were immediately deployed forward to positions along the boundary of the restricted waters in preparation for the vessels’ approach.

At 9:00 a.m., the four CCG vessels entered Taiwan’s restricted waters southwest of Damaoshan. CGA patrol boats immediately moved forward at speed, sailed alongside the vessels to block their advance, and issued stern warnings in both Mandarin and English, ordering them to alter course and leave the area. Under the Coast Guard’s continuous and resolute monitoring and expulsion efforts, all four CCG vessels departed Kinmen’s restricted waters by 11:09 a.m.

The Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch stated that the CCG has continued to intrude into Kinmen’s restricted waters through tactics of “law enforcement in name, expansion of authority in reality.” In addition to creating pressure through its activities at sea, China has also disseminated one-sided narratives as part of its cognitive warfare operations, using radio broadcasts to conduct psychological warfare and deliver pro-unification propaganda, in an attempt to create a false impression that it exercises jurisdiction over the waters surrounding Kinmen.

The CGA emphasized that it will continue to uphold the principles of “neither provoking nor backing down,” while strengthening intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and maritime deployments. The CGA will take appropriate and necessary response measures to counter China’s cognitive warfare efforts and will safeguard national sovereignty through concrete actions, while protecting Taiwan’s maritime rights and interests and ensuring the security of its waters.
