1150908-Taiwan CGA Expels Chinese Coast Guard Vessels near Kinmen
China Coast Guard Intrudes into Kinmen Waters Twice in One Day; Coast Guard Administration Rapidly Deploys to Safeguard National Sovereignty.
China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels intruded into Kinmen’s restricted waters twice today (September 8). After being expelled by Coast Guard Administration(CGA) vessels in the morning, the CCG returned in the afternoon and shifted to an “east-west split approach,” apparently seeking to test Taiwan’s response capabilities. CGA patrol vessels maintained close surveillance throughout the encounter and responded firmly, successfully expelling all CCG vessels from the restricted waters at around 5:00 p.m.
The CGA stated that at approximately 3:00 p.m. today, the 12th Patrol District once again detected four CCG vessels—CCG 14527, CCG 14604, CCG 14531, and CCG 14608—intruding into the restricted waters. The vessels adopted an “east-west split approach,” apparently attempting to disperse Taiwan’s response assets across multiple locations.
Upholding the principle of “neither avoiding confrontation nor backing down,” CGA patrol vessels rapidly maneuvered into position and conducted one-on-one parallel monitoring of the CCG vessels. They also issued firm warnings over radio in both Mandarin and English, ordering the vessels to alter course and leave the area. Following sustained interdiction by CGA patrol vessels, all four CCG vessels exited Kinmen’s restricted waters at 5:03 p.m.
The CGA emphasized that, in the face of threats posed by the CCG, the Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch and the 12th Patrol District maintain a high level of surveillance, rapid-response readiness, and operational deployment capability around the clock, regardless of weather or sea conditions.
The CGA will continue to closely monitor the movements of Chinese government vessels, maintain a comprehensive picture of developments in surrounding waters, and remain vigilant against opportunistic gray-zone harassment by China. Through concrete actions, the CGA will continue to safeguard national sovereignty and maritime rights and interests, while ensuring security in the waters surrounding Kinmen and contributing to regional peace and stability.
