1150910-Chinese Coast Guard Enters Kinmen Waters 3rd Time This Week; Taiwan CGA Drives Vessels Away
China Coast Guard Intrudes into Kinmen Waters for Third Time in a Week;Coast Guard Administration Braves Rough Seas to Drive Vessels Away
China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels once again intruded into Kinmen’s restricted waters today (September 10), marking the third such incident this week. As the season’s first northeasterly monsoon moved southward, bringing significantly rougher sea conditions, Coast Guard Administration (CGA) personnel in Kinmen operated despite the adverse weather and successfully drove all four CCG vessels out of the restricted waters.
At approximately 9:00 a.m. today, the 12th Patrol District of the CGA’s Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch detected four CCG vessels—14527, 14604, 14531, and 14608—assembling and approaching from waters south of Kinmen. The Patrol District immediately deployed patrol vessels forward to respond. After the CCG vessels entered the restricted waters, CGA vessels conducted one-on-one parallel monitoring and issued warnings in both Mandarin Chinese and English, firmly ordering the vessels to leave. Under continuous and close monitoring by CGA patrol vessels, all four CCG vessels eventually departed Kinmen’s restricted waters at 11:13 a.m.
The CGA noted that the frequency of recent CCG intrusions has increased markedly, evolving from isolated incidents into high-frequency and sustained harassment. During this latest intrusion, the CCG even used the Mid-Autumn Festival as a pretext to conduct United Front propaganda broadcasts, attempting to promote a “one family” narrative as part of its cognitive warfare efforts and obscure the true nature of its actions: false law enforcement and genuine harassment. The CGA strongly condemns such conduct.
The CGA further emphasized that the CCG’s insistence on approaching Kinmen despite deteriorating sea conditions has significantly increased the risks to maritime navigation and operations. The CGA will continue to closely monitor activities in surrounding waters and, in accordance with the principles of neither backing down nor provoking confrontation, will firmly enforce the law and make every effort to safeguard maritime order around Kinmen and Taiwan’s national security.
