1150911-Taiwan Coast Guard Expels Chinese Vessels Near Kinmen
China Coast Guard Intrudes into Kinmen Waters for Second Consecutive Day; Coast Guard Administration Braves Rough Seas to Expel Vessels and Defend Sovereignty.
China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels again intruded into Kinmen’s restricted waters today (Sept. 11), marking the second consecutive day and the fourth such incursion this week. Despite strengthening northeasterly monsoon winds and deteriorating sea conditions, Coast Guard Administration(CGA) patrol boats stationed in Kinmen braved heavy winds and waves, responded firmly throughout the operation, and swiftly expelled all four CCG vessels from Taiwan’s restricted waters.
At approximately 9:00 a.m. today, the 12th Patrol Area of the Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch detected four CCG vessels—“14527,” “14604,” “14531,” and “14608”—assembling and approaching from waters south of Kinmen. Patrol boats were immediately deployed forward. After the CCG vessels entered the restricted waters, CGA vessels conducted one-on-one parallel monitoring and issued warnings in both Mandarin Chinese and English, ordering them to leave. Under continuous and close monitoring by the CGA, all four CCG vessels eventually exited Kinmen’s restricted waters at 11:13 a.m.
The CGA noted that the CCG had carried out intensive incursions into Kinmen’s restricted waters for two consecutive days using the exact same formation, demonstrating that these were planned gray-zone harassment operations. In particular, despite strengthening northeasterly monsoon winds and worsening sea conditions, the Chinese side still deliberately entered Taiwan’s waters, seriously disrupting normal maritime traffic and significantly increasing risks to maritime operations.
The CGA emphasized that, in the face of China’s continued practice of “law enforcement in name, harassment in fact,” CGA personnel have consistently upheld the principle of “neither provoking nor backing down.” Regardless of changes in weather or sea conditions, the CGA will continue to maintain forward deployment on the front line, respond appropriately to incursions, and firmly safeguard national sovereignty and maritime security.
