1150929-Taiwan Slams China’s Kinmen "Patrols" as Harassment

The China Coast Guard (CCG) claimed today (September 29) that it has been “conducting regular law-enforcement patrols in waters near Kinmen in accordance with the law since September,” while also using Mid-Autumn Festival messaging as part of its United Front propaganda efforts.
The Coast Guard Administration (CGA) stated that the Republic of China (Taiwan) is a sovereign and independent country, and neither the Republic of China (Taiwan) nor the People’s Republic of China is subordinate to the other. The Chinese side’s actions run counter to objective facts and constitute nothing more than cognitive warfare. The CGA further stated as follows:
1. In 2025 the CCG vessels entered and transited Kinmen’s restricted waters 46 times under the guise of conducting “law-enforcement patrols.” So far in 2026, 35 such incursions have already been recorded. Based on an analysis of their actual navigation patterns, these activities clearly constitute “routine harassment,” rather than “law-enforcement patrols.” Such actions not only seriously undermine the atmosphere of cross-Strait relations, but also openly jeopardize regional peace and stability.
2. The CGA pointed out that China is deliberately exploiting the festive atmosphere and emotionally appealing rhetoric to conduct cognitive warfare, in an attempt to obscure the fact that its intrusive actions are unilaterally undermining the status quo.
The CGA calls on the CCG to immediately cease all forms of harassment that could trigger conflict or further escalate tensions. The CGA will continue to deploy vessels around the clock, closely monitor developments, and take appropriate response measures. It will firmly safeguard national sovereignty and maritime security, while ensuring the operational rights and interests of Taiwanese fishermen.
