1150929-Taiwan CGA Monitors Chinese Coast Guard Vessels off East Coast

In response to the China Coast Guard’s (CCG) claim today (September 29) that a task group led by the Zhujiajian vessel was “conducting regular law-enforcement patrols in waters east of Taiwan, China, in accordance with the law,” the Taiwan Coast Guard Administration (CGA) has deployed the Lanyu patrol vessel and other vessels to maintain continuous monitoring of the CCG ships.
The CGA firmly rejects the CCG’s cognitive warfare narrative of “law enforcement in name, harassment in practice,” and states as follows:

1. The CGA has employed joint intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities to closely track the movements of CCG vessels 2503 Zhujiajian and 1401 Chongming throughout their operations.
At approximately 4:00 p.m. today (September 29), the two CCG vessels were operating approximately 97 nautical miles northeast of Green Island and 146 nautical miles east of Lanyu, respectively. The Lanyu patrol vessel and other CGA vessels remain on scene and are continuing to closely monitor their activities.
2. The CGA emphasized that the Republic of China (Taiwan) is a sovereign and independent country, and neither the Republic of China (Taiwan) nor the People’s Republic of China is subordinate to the other.
Under international law, the principle that “the land dominates the sea” applies. Accordingly, Taiwan possesses sovereign rights and jurisdiction within its exclusive economic zone (EEZ) off eastern Taiwan, while China has no jurisdiction over Taiwan’s surrounding waters.
China is maliciously engaging in political manipulation by unilaterally disseminating false narratives such as “Taiwan Island, China” and “law-enforcement patrols,” in an attempt to unilaterally alter the status quo and undermine the rules-based international order.
The CGA strongly condemns such actions and will continue to take all necessary measures to resolutely safeguard national sovereignty and ensure the security of Taiwan’s maritime areas.
