1151001-Taiwan Coast Guard Seizes Chinese Vessels for Two Consecutive Days
Penghu Coast Guard Steps Up Enforcement, Seizes Chinese Fishing Vessels for Two Consecutive Days.
Following the seizure of a Chinese fishing vessel operating illegally in restricted waters yesterday (September 30), the 8th (Penghu) Offshore Flotilla seized another Chinese fishing vessel today (October 1) for illegally conducting trawling operations in restricted waters northwest of Xiyu. The enforcement actions carried out on two consecutive days demonstrate the Coast Guard Administration (CGA)’s firm commitment to upholding maritime law and order.
At approximately 10:00 a.m. today, while conducting a maritime patrol, CGA patrol boat PP-3503 of the 8th (Penghu) Offshore Flotilla detected the Chinese fishing vessel “Yue O Yu 336XX” illegally conducting trawling operations approximately 19.6 nautical miles northwest of Xiyu, within Taiwan’s restricted waters.
PP-3503 immediately issued three orders by radio broadcast and siren instructing the vessel to stop for inspection. At 10:05 a.m., CGA personnel successfully maneuvered alongside the vessel and boarded it for inspection, quickly bringing the situation under control. A total of seven Chinese crew members were found on board. A thorough inspection of the vessel subsequently uncovered approximately 850 kilograms of catch.
The fishing vessel has been escorted back to Magong Port. The case will be handled in accordance with the Act Governing Relations between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area.
The Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch stated that Coast Guard personnel remain on the front line around the clock throughout the year, continuously carrying out maritime patrol and inspection missions. The CGA remains fully committed to its three core missions of safeguarding national security, public safety, and maritime safety, while protecting the security of Penghu waters and the fishing rights and interests of local fishermen.
The CGA will continue to take firm enforcement action in accordance with the law against illegal activities involving Chinese fishing vessels operating across maritime boundaries, in order to maintain order in Taiwan’s waters.
The CGA also urges fishermen to immediately report any suspected illegal incursions or other unusual activities encountered at sea by calling the 118 Coast Guard Hotline. Upon receiving a report, the CGA will promptly dispatch patrol vessels to respond.
