1151009- Taiwan Intercepts Chinese Coast Guard Vessels near Kinmen Ahead of National Day
China Coast Guard Vessels Again Intrude into Kinmen Waters Ahead of Taiwan’s National Day, Coast Guard Administration Deploys in Advance to Safeguard Maritime Territory Around the Clock.
In preparation for Taiwan’s National Day celebrations on October 10, the Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch of the Coast Guard Administration (CGA) has intensified maritime surveillance and deployed patrol assets in advance. On October 9, the CGA’s 12th Patrol District detected a formation of China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels intruding into Kinmen’s waters. CGA patrol boats were immediately deployed to intercept the vessels, adopting a one-on-one approach by maneuvering alongside each Chinese vessel at close range. Throughout the operation, CGA personnel continuously issued radio warnings and orders to leave the area, demonstrating Taiwan’s firm commitment to maritime law enforcement and the protection of its maritime rights and interests.
At 9:10 a.m., four CCG vessels, identified by hull numbers 14608, 14529, 14607, and 14531, entered Kinmen’s restricted waters in two separate groups of two, approaching from the east and southwest of Liaoluo, respectively. Despite unfavorable sea conditions around Kinmen, CGA patrol boats maintained close surveillance of the vessels’ movements and intentions while navigating through strong winds and rough seas. CGA personnel firmly prevented the Chinese vessels from advancing deeper into Taiwan’s waters and repeatedly issued warnings and orders to leave via radio in both Mandarin Chinese and English. All four CCG vessels eventually departed Kinmen’s restricted waters by 11:13 a.m.
The Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch emphasized that maintaining security during the National Day holiday is of critical importance, as such occasions are often exploited by China to conduct gray-zone harassment and cognitive warfare operations. As a frontline agency responsible for safeguarding national security, the CGA remains fully vigilant. Regardless of weather conditions, sea states, or whether it is a regular working day or public holiday, the CGA maintains high-intensity, round-the-clock maritime surveillance and rapid-response capabilities. The CGA will continue to carry out comprehensive security operations throughout the National Day holiday, remaining steadfast in its mission to safeguard national sovereignty and maritime security at all times.
