1151016-Taiwan Coast Guard Warns Off Chinese Vessels near Dongsha

China Coast Guard Vessels 3301 and 3303 Intrude into Dongsha’s Restricted Waters, CGA Cutter Cijin and Patrol Boat Conduct Parallel Monitoring and Issue Firm Warnings.

At approximately 2:00 p.m. on October 16, the Dongsha Command of the Coast Guard Administration (CGA) detected two China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels, numbered 3301 and 3303, southwest of Dongsha Atoll. Based on their courses and speeds, the vessels were assessed as likely to enter Taiwan’s restricted waters. The Dongsha Command immediately instructed the CGA cutter Cijin and patrol boat PP-10032, both on patrol duty, to deploy and respond to the situation.

At 3:34 p.m., CCG vessels 3301 and 3303 entered Dongsha’s restricted waters. The CGA cutter Cijin and patrol boat PP-10032 immediately conducted one-on-one parallel monitoring operations and issued firm warnings in both Mandarin Chinese and English, ordering the Chinese vessels to leave the area. The confrontation remained ongoing at the time of this press release.

The CGA stated that, as of October 16, 2026, it had conducted 11 operations to expel Chinese coast guard vessels from waters surrounding Dongsha this year, involving a total of 14 vessel encounters.

The CGA emphasized that Taiwan holds indisputable sovereignty over Dongsha Atoll and its surrounding waters. The Chinese side’s attempts to expand its jurisdiction under the guise of law enforcement, creating a false impression of jurisdictional authority, constitute a practice of “law enforcement in name, jurisdictional expansion in practice.”

The CGA strongly condemns such actions and will continue to take all necessary measures to firmly defend national sovereignty and ensure the security of Taiwan’s waters.
