Introduction to the Office

1.Origins
  The Office was formerly "the Coastal Patrol Command of Southern Area”, subordinate to the Ministry of National Defense. The tasks of coastal defense had been performed by various units in the past; in order to realize centralized command and management, the Legislative Yuan passed the Organizational Law of Coast Guard Administration, Executive Yuan on January 16, 2000, which was promulgated by the President. On February 1 in the same year, the Coast Guard Administration, Executive Yuan was officially established, and the Southern Coastal Patrol Office was also established according to the Organizational General Rules of Regional Coastal Patrol Agency. On February 3, 2010,"The Organizational Act of Executive Yuan" was amended to establish "Ocean Affairs council(OAC)" .On June 16, 2015, "Four Organizational Acts of the Ocean Affairs council" (Ocean Affairs council, Coast Guard Administration, Ocean Conservation Administration, and National Academy of Marine Research) was passed by the three readings; in addition, "the Organizational Act of Ocean Affairs council" was subordinated by the office of the president on July 1 in the same year. The OAC was officially established on April 28, 2018, as well as the southern patrol office was renamed the southern branch, CGA, OAC.

2.Task
  In order to protect the regional order and safety, the southern branch is legally responsible for the following matters to make sure the citizen’s rights were been protected:

  1. Investigation of smuggling operations.
  2. Illegal exit or entry into the country.
  3. Safety inspection of water-bound vessels into or out of ports.
  4. Management and security of the coastal control zone.
  5. Implementation for safeguarding maritime rights and interests.

3.Future vision
  In order to move towards the national marine development vision of "ecological, safe and prosperous", the southern branch will continue to use the collective strength of the team to effectively enforce the law and ensure the overall national security by strengthening the integration capability of patrol command, strengthening the search and use of illegal information, and commit to the maintenance of the marine environment and resources, to fulfill the Coast Guard Administration’s concept of policy implement in "opening the ocean, serving the people, and ensuring safety".
