Fishing Rights Protection Maritime Public Security Marine Conservation Search and Rescue Marine Affairs
Fishing disputes caused by overlapping EEZs with neighboring countries (e.g. Japan and the Philippines) and mainland Chinese fishing ships’ illegal fishing in Taiwan’s jurisdictional waters have great impact on fishermen’s safety, rights and interests. In order to exercise coastal county’s rights in the customs and crimes investigation bestowed by United Nations Convention on the Law of Sea, in accordance with Customs Anti-Smuggling Act,Punishment off Smuggling Act, National Security Act, Coast Guard Administration investigates maritime/coastal smuggling, stowaway and relative illegal activities and conducts security check at seaports to maintain territorial security. CGA works with experts and specialists in marine science, streamlines the agency’s work process, and raises public awareness for marine conservation and sustainability by exploiting the power of social media. The notification and coordination of maritime rescue operations in the surrounding waters of Taiwan is mainly conducted by National Rescue Command Center, Executive Yuan (NRCC), and Coast Guard Administration(CGA) is responsible for the executions. When NRCC receives and verifies a distress call, CGA and various agencies relative to maritime search and rescue will be alerted to take actions in accordance with the standard operation procedures of "Executive Yuan National Rescue Command Center Operations Manual". Search and rescue operation in the event of perils of the sea. Marine disaster aid. Stranded whale & dolphin rescue.
