1150320-China Coast Guard Harassment in Kinmen Waters , Mar 20, 2026

Mainland China Coast Guard Conducts Third Intrusion into Kinmen Water Within One Week; Taiwan Coast Guard Maintains Full Monitoring and Firmly Expels Intruding Vessels

Following the Mainland China Coast Guard (CCG) incursions into Kinmen water on March 16 and March 17, the 12th Patrol Area under the Taiwan Coast Guard Administration (TCGA) Kinmen-Matsu-Penghu Branch again detected a formation of CCG vessels approaching Taiwan’s water on the afternoon of March 20. TCGA immediately deployed pre-positioned patrol boats to conduct parallel monitoring and expulsion operations.

At approximately 14:00, the 12th Patrol Area identified through its surveillance and reconnaissance system that CCG vessels were assembling near Kinmen water and immediately directed patrol boats to move forward and deploy along the Restricted Water boundary.

At 15:00, four CCG vessels — 14507, 14609, 14531, and 14604 — entered the Kinmen Restricted Water in two separate formations, approaching from the south of Liaoluo and the south of Shaxibao.

TCGA patrol boats immediately conducted one-on-one parallel monitoring, while issuing radio warnings in Mandarin and English, sternly demanding that the vessels alter course and depart.

Demonstrating firm resolve in safeguarding national sovereignty and maritime security, TCGA patrol boats successfully compelled all four vessels to exit the Kinmen Restricted Area at 17:03.

TCGA stated that Mainland China Coast Guard vessels have continued to conduct harassment activities using varying formation patterns in an attempt to disrupt TCGA’s surveillance capabilities and create a false impression of jurisdiction through so-called 'law enforcement patrols.' However, such actions remain fully monitored and effectively countered by TCGA’s round-the-clock high-intensity surveillance and response operations.

TCGA calls on Mainland China to respect regional peace and stability and to cease all harassment activities that may escalate tensions. In the face of increasingly severe gray zone threats, TCGA will continue to leverage advanced technological capabilities to maintain full situational awareness at sea and will take all necessary measures to firmly safeguard national sovereignty and ensure maritime security.
